Day Hiking Tours & Excursions in the Canadian RockiesThere are hundreds of trails and locations for excursions or winter snowshoeing among the Canadian Rockies. Hikers or backpackers choose Canada's Rocky Mountain parks for breathtaking views along their day mountain tour adventures. Our favorite place for hiking in the Canadian Rockies is Jasper National Park. Below is a short list of more favorite selected tours, hikes, scrambles and treks among the central Canadian Rockies.
Cory Pass (Banff National Park)
Cory Pass is located just west of the Banff town site and makes a great mountain day hike when combined with the Mt. Edith loop. Start at Fireside Picnic area and hike up along the west side of Mt. Edith to the pass. On the backside you traverse down the mountain slope under Mt. Louis and back along Mt. Edith's east drainage. The total tour elevation gain is 915 m (3,000 ft) and total distance is 13 km (8.1 mi).
Black Rock Mountain (Ghost River)
Black Rock Mountain is a slightly harder rocky mountain hike to access because it is off the beaten path in the Ghost River area. The mountain's peak is 2462 m (8077 ft) high and offers great views of the east prairies. Remains of an old fire watch building on the summit can be observed, which serves as a great place for your mountain lunch. The trip is 11 km (7 mi) return with a tour elevation gain of 892 m (2927 ft).
Iceline Trail (Yoho National Park)
Located in Yoho Valley, this great Canadain Rockies Iceline Tour Trail is a favorite day hike for many. Your tour trail will climb high under the northeast side of the Peak. There are great views of Water Falls, glaciers and Yoho's Rocky Mountain Valley. This mounatin hike can be completed in a loop, or as an approach for overnight mountaineers', staying at the Stanley Mitchell Hut. You may prefer to return along Yoho Valley which makes the trip 20 km (12 mi) long with a tour elevation gain of 700 m (2300 ft).
