Backbacking in Kananaskis Country

Touring the Canadian Rockies' Kananaskis Country will take you approximately 90 km west of Calgary and consists of over 4000 square km of foothills, valleys and rocky mountains. John Palliser named the area after a native Cree warrior called "Koominakoos" in 1858.

Canada's Kananaskis Country, referred to by locals as "K-Country" was formed in 1977. This rocky mountain park area offers an array of beautiful landscapes and trails. It is home to a variety of Canada's large wildlife including wolves, grizzly and black bears, moose, elk, deer and big horn sheep.
