A World Heritage Site, Canada's Mount Assiniboine is the most dominant peak of the Southern Canadian Rockies, rising 3618 m. This rocky mountain bears a striking resemblance to Switzerland's Matterhorn, hence the nickname “the Matterhorn of the Rockies”. It is located between Banff National Park and Kootenay National Park, and 48 km tour southwest of Banff.

G.M. Dawson of the Dominion Geological Survey saw the mountain in 1885 from afar and dubbed it Mount Assiniboine. It was more that 8 years (1893) until someone actually reached this canadian rocky mountain.
