Canadian Rockies Backpacking Tours among Wokkpash LakeCanada's Wokkpash Lake is located 90 km southwest of Fort Nelson, British Columbia, near the Alaska Highway. The Wokkpash Lake is located within the Northern Rocky Mountains Provincial Park, which was formed in 1999.
Canadian Rockies' Wokkpash Lake is remote and no detailed glacial history-study has been conducted in the area as of yet. What is known about the tour area, however, is the best hoodoos in the Rockies can be found along the Wokkpash Gorge. Hoodoos are pillars that form during rock formation erosion, when a harder layer or rock has prevented the erosion in one area.
Wokkpash Gorge - Northern Canadian Rockies Tour
- The mountains in this tour area have steep eastern faces with gentler grades on western aspects; glaciation has resulted in broad U-shaped river valley bottoms, mountain cirques and moraine ridges.
South end of Wokkpash Lake
- This multi-day rocky mountain backpacking tour follows the Wokkpash Creek through to the Wokkpash Gorge, home to thousands of hoodoos; to the Forlorn Gorge that leads to the Wokkpash Lake. Along the trails, mountain hikers will be exposed to Canada's Alpine plants such as dwarf willows, grasses, sedges (grass), wildflowers and lichen and diverse wildlife including, moose, elk, stone sheep, black bears, and martens.
The backpacking trip to the Wokkpash Lake is a remote trip with no facilities and requires several creek crossings. This is a true adventure tour that requires previous hiking experience or good physical fitness.
